If the turn around day is in a US Port you need to deal with the "zero out" process which means debarking the vessel and clearing immigration (before the eventual reboarding or heading off into town). Instead of spending a day in St Thomas imagine spending a day in Barcelona, Rome, Florence, etc. That can certainly mix things up a bit in a lot of areas. Different food, entertainment, atmosphere, etc might be nice.
